Peter Andrews joined True Potential in Spring 2018, here he tells us about what attracted him to working in investing and his hopes for the future.
How did you get into the industry?
I studied Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. During my masters I had the opportunity to take a module in economics, which piqued my interest in markets and investment. After I finished my studies I began exploring career pathways in the industry, and eventually I was lucky enough to be offered a role at True Potential. I approached True Potential as I wanted to work for an innovative company at the forefront of financial technology.
What does your job entail?
Fund governance is a system of checks and balances, which are carried out on daily basis. At the basic level the aim is to uphold the four pillars of investor protection, by ensuring; firstly that a fund is managed in line with its objectives and relevant legal agreements. Secondly that clients’ assets are kept safe. Thirdly, that Investors get their pro-rata share of the fund’s assets upon redemption and finally that the fund is managed for the benefit of the investors.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Working in fund governance has given me a clear insight into the regulatory requirements that are necessary to operate a fund. Coming from a legal background, I enjoy that I can use the analytical skills I acquired during my studies in an investment environment. As the regulatory rules continue to change and True Potential expand into other areas, there is always something new to learn to keep things interesting.
Why is the Company special?
True Potential is continually developing. This embrace of change means the firm is constantly innovating and adapting in the best interests of our clients. Added to that, the company provides its employees at every level of the business with opportunities to develop and progress.
What are you most excited about for the future of the company?
I joined True Potential just before the launch of the True Potential Growth Aligned Funds, which are wholly managed in-house. Given the previous results the company has achieved, being a part of their continued growth is an exciting prospect.
